[edit] Why am I here?

This page has been created in an attempt to clean up the main Imperial Guard (Warhammer 40,000 army) article, by removing the "Notable Imperial Guard Forces" text and placing it here, and by elaborating on the fictional history of this organisation within the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

My personal intention is for the article to remain relatively static. Although editions to the main part of the article, along with canon elaborations on the Notable Forces, would be welcome, I would definitely not like to see this article become a repository for every homebrew IG regiment ever thought up by a player.

[edit] What needs to be done?

These are the editions to the article I feel are needed to make it better than it is:

  • Copyedits of the article for spelling, grammar and wikilinks. The article, because of its origin, should be in British English. Feel free to fix any of my typos.
  • Elaboration on the information in the article. Now this should primarily be from the rulebook and the Codexes. Please note your sources in the Reference section and in the Edit Summary.
  • Elaboration on the Notable Forces. This should only be done, again, by using information from the rulebook and codexes, or from the Black Library novels in some cases. I would personally like to see some elaboration on some of the smaller Forces, and would like to see a subsection to the Cadian Shock Troops written on the 8th Cadian Regiment, considering their fame.
  • Addition of new Notable Forces should only be made if one of the following criteria are met. Above all, they must be canonical, and at least a decent-sized paragraph should be writable for each.
    1. Decent-sized mention in a rulebook or Codex published by Games Workshop or one of its subsidiary companies (ForgeWorld, Specialist Games, etc).
    2. Major focus of a multiple novel series published by the Black Library (ie Gaunt's Ghosts).
    3. Major focus of a Black Library novel, and significant mention in a seperate novel or a rulebook/codex (ie Phantine Air Corps).

[edit] Vostroyan Merge

I'm suggesting a merge of the Vostroyan article here, as all other 'major' Imperial Guard regiments are listed here (including the Cadians and Catachans, the only two regiments with recent re-releases of the miniatures and the updated plastics)

However, there is very little verifiable information concerning the Vostroyans at this time, and I believe most of this information will be revealed in the immediate leadup to the mid-year worldwide campaign. Because of this I would personally like to hold off the merge until an article with verifiable, sourced information can be produced. -- Saberwyn 11:36, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

There's apparently going to be more extensive information on the regiment in the May 2006 UK issue of White Dwarf, according to Games Workshop's website.[1] Xombie 23:25, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

I've written up a history of the Vostroyans from information printed in White Dwarf 316 on the Vostroyan page. If anyone wants to merge that into the Imperial Guard article, be my guest, I'm not sure how to do it. --Xombie 20:18, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Saberwyn's Recent Edit

As of this edit, all regiments are arranged alphabetically by planet of origin. I am beginning to source information using footnotes to refer to specific regiments. I have also removed three regiments, those of Terrax, Harakoni, and Kanak, as their only appearances are as examples of the Doctrines rules in the most recent Imperial Guard Codex.

I am also looking at removing the Jopall Indentured Squadrons, Death Korps of Krieg, Krourk Ogryn Auxilia, and Salvar Chem Dogs, as I do not think they are 'major' enough regiments to warrant inclusion. Subtracting these, all of the entires either have (or had) miniatures produced by Citadel or Forge World, while the two remaining play important roles in multiple Black Library publications.   • Minor edit made to the Elysian Drop Troops page; they were not inspired by Halo 2's Hell Divers, as evidenced by this web page recording a campaign set during the Third War for Armageddon, which took place between August and October, 2000, long before the release of either Halo game. Saberwyn, this article is about 6,000 words long... that's longer than most short stories!

There is FAR more than just the history here.

I suggest that the individual information for each specified, notable regiments be merged with the "Planets of Warhammer 40,000", where a mountainous list of planets exist, and take out the homeworlds of each. Then, the actual history and other information can be merged back with the Imperial Guard page (which is awfully short).

With this, we can also expand on more information rather than force ourselves to limit each section of the articles. Thoughts? Colonel Marksman 18:12, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

    • Whoa, whoa whoa... slow down. Let me get this straight, with the Cadians as an example. Merge Cadian Shock Troops to the Cadia section in Planets, then split the combined Cadia out into its own article? Rinse and repeat with other regiments as necessary? -- Saberwyn 21:07, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 1st Kronus Regiment

Should the 1st Kronus Regiment from the PC game Dawn of War: Dark Crusade have a mention in this article? GamerJay 12:17, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I doubt it, as the game does not follow fluff guidelines at all. Kronus is a non-existant planet in the 40Kverse anyways. I'll go ahead and remove it as well as fixing the errors in the same section. I'm also going to drop the section about doctrines and weapons as it seems to be copied straight from the GW website.
