[edit] Distance from Liddington to Swindon:

We say

Plowman's research suggest that it was extremely unlikely that Pitt would venture the 20 miles to Swindon to manage the club when the only method of transport between the village and town would have been horses and carts

But according to http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/WIL/Liddington/index.htm the village is fonly our miles SE of Swindon, which I think rather undermines the argument. Perhaps we should drop the sentence: we already have the report of the after dinner speech, which seems much clearer evidence that Pitt severed his connection with the club in 1881. —Ian Spackman 12:04, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
