Talk:History of Microsoft

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I believe this article should be merged into the Microsoft article since that is a better article as regards facts, relevance and accuracy.

Tried to wikify the article and remove the non neutral claims. Certain parts of the article read like they come straight of a press release by Microsoft.
The huge success of Xbox Live has set the standard for future online gaming. They also have expanded graphics and gaming to a whole new level with games like Halo and Knights of the Old Republic. Another huge benefit of Microsoft’s involvement in this system is that converting games from PC to Xbox and from Xbox to PC usually does not take long since Microsoft makes both.
The equivalent article on the History of Apple Computer is a lot better than this. Wikifying and removing the POV bits isn't going to improve this. menscht 22:47, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
I just read the whole article and compared it to the main Microsoft article. In my opinion merging isn't necessary. All the information is already in the Microsoft article - which is a featured article - and which is well written and referenced. I think a redirect to that page is in order. Because of this I put a {{cleanup-rewrite}} tag on top of the article, if the article isn't improved in the next few weeks it can be redirected without any consequences. menscht 23:03, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks to Wikipedia I can learn fascinating things like...

  • Traf-O-Data and Microsoft were the same business venture
  • The Altair was based on the 8008 processor
  • Microsoft began as a "tiny Seattle company"
  • Microsoft is now based in Bellevue?? Yes, it's right on the city limits, but you don't have to read many press stories to get this right.
  • The big feature of DOS 2.0 was "new languages"

The main Microsoft article does much better. I don't mind if someone wants to split the main article's history into this title, but fact-check! Gazpacho 07:31, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Postscript: OK, yes, Microsoft did locate in Bellevue at one point. But I stand by the other objections. Gazpacho 05:15, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
