Histoplasma capsulatum. Histopathologic changes seen in histoplasmosis. Methenamine silver stain. Note presence of typical yeast cells, some of which are undergoing replication by "budding." Histoplasmosis can be confined to the lungs, or become systemically disseminated, thereby producing a fatal outcome.
