History by region

There has long been a tradition of sub-dividing history by country. This is closely linked to the central focus on political leadership by historians. It has increasingly come to be realized[citation needed] that historical trends and patterns are not confined within borders, thus looking at the history of larger and smaller regions, that are often more vaguely defined, but can be looked at as a single group.
