Histadrut HaOvdim HaKlalit HaKHadasha (Hebrew writing: הסתדרות העובדים הכללית החדשה) is the largest trade union in Israel. That is the current name of the organization that was established in 1920 and was called many years HaHistadrut HaKlalit SHel HaOvdim HaIvriyim Be'Erets Yisrael (ההסתדרות הכללית של העובדים העברים בארץ ישראל).
The current name, Histadrut HaOvdim HaKlalit HaKHadasha, or shortly HaHistadrut HaKHadasha, was given to the organization in 1994, following an essential re-evaluation in the structure of the organization, which Haim Ramon arranged with his election to the secretary-general of the Histadrut, part of it in his initiative, and part of it with no choice, due to the organization's hard financial crisis.
In order to reflect this change, and to turn the organization more attractive to the workers, the name of the organization was changed to its current name. The Histadrut's processes of limitation included separation from most of its economic properties, including Bank Hapoalim, Solel Bone company, "Kupat KHolim SHel HaHistadrut HaKlalit SHel HaOvdim HaIvriyim Be'Erets Yisrael" (today called SHerutey Bri'ut Klalit), et cetera. The Histadrut became a limited in its duties and in its definitions trade union, that its activity is limited mainly to protection on the different interests of the members who are unionized in it and to parliamentary activity in a limited partisan frame.
Out of the new reality, the Histadrut built renewed political arrangement, that its essence is creating a unique political party for the Histadrut, on the account of the historic connection between the old Histadrut and the Labor party, in the name of Am Ekhad party.
Another change that the Histadrut had was the transferring of its main office to Jerusalem. That change was failed, and after few years its main office returned to Arlozorov street in Tel-Aviv, where the office was before it moved to Jerusalem.
