Hispania Balearica

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hispania Balearica was a province of the Roman Empire. Today, the province makes up the archipelago of the Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain in the western portion of the Mediterranean Sea. The capital of this province was Palma, which bares the same modern name.

The province of Balearica was created at the end of the 4th century, becoming so independent from the Hispania Carthaginensis province. Before, the Balearic Islands had belonged to Hispania Citerior and Hispania Tarraconensis.
