Hisham Kabbani

Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani (born in Lebanon) is a prominent but controversial American Sufi Muslim, and a scholar of sufi Islam. Kabbani advocates an understanding of Islam as fundamentally based on peace, tolerance, respect and love. He has 4 children 3 boys and one girl.

Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani descended from a long line of spiritual leaders and was born in Beirut, Lebanon. For more than fifty years he has been a disciple of the imminent shaykh of the Naqshbandui Sufi Order, Shaykh Nazim Adil al Haqqani of Cyprus.
On the order of Shaykh Nazim, Shaykh Hisham relocated to the United States in 1991, where he has opened thirteen Sufi outreach centers, focused on spreading enlightenment and good will as based on Islamic teachings. He has lectured at many universities, including the University of Chicago, Columbia University, and the University of California, Berkeley, as well as at many spiritual and religious centers throughout North America, Europe, the Far East, and the Middle East.
He is a leader of several organizations that promote tolerance and moderation in traditional Islam. His positions include:

- Advisor, Human Rights Council, U.S.A. for supporting the establishment of human rights and freedom in all nations.
- Advisor, American Islamic Association of Mental Health Providers.
- Co-founder, Haqqani Worldwide Educational Foundation center for teaching Islamic Divine Law and spirituality in London, England.
- Speaker and advisor, Inter-Religious Organization, Singapore.
- Chairman, International Islamic Unity Conference, 7-9 August 7-9 1998.
- Co-developer and former General Manager of the Jeddah Medical Center in Saudi Arabia.
Kabbani works closely with the governments and people of Muslim nations around the world to restore traditional Islamic practices and prevent the increase of religious radicalism. He has supported relief efforts in Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, his native Lebanon, and Somalia, and peace initiatives in the Middle East, Bosnia, Kashmir, Afghanistan and Kosovo.
He has also worked with international organizations to establish the International Day of the Orphan as a globally-observed day for highlighting the plight of orphans, foster children and child victims of abuse.
