[edit] Character Information
Professor Hiroshi Agasa is Jimmy Kudo's next door neighbor, and an inventor. After Jimmy turned into a child, Agasa was the first person to know his identity.
As an inventor, Agasa uses his technological expertise to aid Conan in his cases, most notably the tranquilizer watch and the voice-changing bow tie which Conan uses primarily in most of his cases.
He is also a congenial and friendly person, which makes him very popular in the community; throughout the manga series he receives a number of gifts and invitations to social gatherings, which he usually attends with the Detective Boys in tow (and which inevitably turn into some criminal case).
[edit] Name
His last name 博士 has double meaning. Read as hiroshi it is a Japanese given name; but read as hakase it refers to the title of Doctor of Philosophy. Since Agasa does have a PhD, Conan Edogawa refers to him as Dr. Agasa (Agasa-hakase), but if his whole name and title has to be referred, it would be 阿笠 博士博士 (Agasa Hiroshi-hakase).
[edit] List of Inventions
- Tranquilizer Watch- shoots a tranquilizer needle to the target knocking them out. Only one shot before it needs to be reloaded.
- Voice-changing Bow Tie- changes the user's voice.
- Voice-changing Pens- same feature as the Voice-Changing Bow Tie. Unlike the bow tie, it is a toy readily available for retail.
- Button-size Speaker- A speaker to be used in conjunction with a microphone or the voice-changing bow tie.
- Bento Fax Machine- a lunch box that transforms into a fax machine. However, it contains real food!
- Super Sneakers- Amplifies the leg muscles when using a kicking motion. Conan uses them to kick objects at high speeds for knocking out criminals.
- Badge Communicator- The Detective Boys' badges allows the users to communicate with one another.
- Tracking Glasses- Allows the user to track down anything provided that the tracking gum is attached to the target. Also tracks the location of the Detective Boys' badges.
- Strechy Suspenders- Very elastic pair of suspenders that can expand or retract with a simple press of a button.
- Flashlight Watch- A watch that has a built in flashlight.
- Anywhere Ball Projector- A seemingly ordinary belt that contains several pieces of highly-elastic rubber. By adjusting the dials and pushing a button, Conan can inflate the rubber into ready-made soccer balls for use with his sneakers, or even cushions in case of emergancies. Unfortunately, the balls collapse after around ten seconds.
[edit] Trivia
Professor's Agasa's name is a pun of the famous mystery writer Agatha Christie. Agatha written in Japanese is "アガサ" (Agasa). It is spelled with an "s" because the Japanese language does not inherently have a "th" sound.
