Hirekerur is a panchayat town in Haveri district in the Indian state of Karnataka. The name means "Hire" = Big, "Keri"= pond/lake ,Ur ="village",pronounced as Hee ray kay roor.

As of 2001 India census^GRIndia, Hirekerur had a population of 15,874. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Hirekerur has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 66%. It is also home to the famous Durga Devi temple located just near the lake. The lake was not empty if so it is because of agriculture all are belongs to former n most of fields was near by the temple thats why some time it become empty for quite sometime but filled up recently because of heavy rains.

Hirekerur has 4 theatres and all surround the village but it is not a village anymore, it is becoming a city. It is Taluq place which operates in all businesses.
