Hirata, Shimane

This article is about the city in Shimane Prefecture, Japan. There are two towns and a village in Japan with the same name, see Hirata, Gifu, Hirata, Yamagata, or Hirata, Fukushima.
Hirata (平田市; -shi) is a city located in Shimane, Japan.
As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 28,506 and the density of 200.68 persons per km². The total area is 142.05 km².
The city was founded on January 1, 1955.
The city was merged into the new city of Izumo on January 2005.
Hirata is connected by rail with Izumo by the Dentetsu rail line. The line continues beyond Hirata as far as Matsue.
