Hindustan Computers Limited is an India-based company, commonly known as HCL. HCL has annual revenues of US$ 3.8 Billion.[citation needed] HCL consists of two companies: HCL Technologies and HCL Infosystems and the group is collectively known as HCL Enterprise.

Founded in 1976, the company is claimed to be a garage start-up. HCL's services include engineering, technology and application services, BPO and infrastructure management services. It is also a systems integrator and distributor of IT hardware and telecom products. HCL Enterprise employed 41,000 staff as of September 30, 2006.[citation needed] The company has operations in 16 countries.[citation needed]

HCL Technologies Ltd, a listed subsidiary of HCL, is an India-based global IT services company, specialising in outsourcing. It provides software services, remote infrastructure management services and BPO services. HCL Technologies was partially listed in a 1999 IPO. The company has offices in 17 countries.[citation needed] HCL Technologies reported revenues of US$1.155 billion (Rs.5140 crore) for the year ended 31st December 2006 and employed 38,317 staff.[citation needed]

In early 2006 HCL Technologies won a $300 million contract described as one of the biggest Indian outsourcing contracts at that time, a three-year deal with European electronics retailer DSG which operates Dixon's stores in the UK [1]. The deal includes services such as custom applications development and maintenance, infrastructure management and data center hosting.[citation needed]

On 20 December 2006, HCL announced a US$200 million deal with the British arm of European insurer, Skandia. Skandia UK will outsource application optimization, including development, maintenance and support and remote infrastructure management to HCL. It is said to be one of the largest offshoring deals in insurance.[2]

During 2005-06, HCL announced three other multi-service, multi-year deals: Celestica, Teradyne and Autodesk.[citation needed]

HCL Infrastructure Services Division (also known as HCL Comnet), specializes in remote IT infrastructure management services.

HCL BPO Services provides a comprehensive range of Voice/Web base Contact and Front Office Services that span Collections, Sales & Marketing, Technical Help Desk and Customer Care. It represents HCL Technologies’ most significant strategic business extension and investment to date. HCL BPO Services currently operates out of various locations in India, Malaysia and Northern Ireland.

HCL Infosystems Ltd, a listed subsidiary of HCL, is an India-based hardware and systems integrator. It claims a presence in 170 locations and 300 service centres.[citation needed] Its manufacturing facilities are based in Chennai, Pondicherry and Uttarakhand and the company is headquartered in Noida.[citation needed]

HCL Infosystems subsidiary HCL InfiNet claims to have received ISO 9001:2000 certification for its Nokia Care service centers in India.[citation needed] The company launched a personal computer targeted at BPO customers on 12 July 2006.[citation needed]
