[edit] Deletion discussion

I disagree with this category being put up for deletion. There are other categories like "Roman Catholic politicians" and "American-Jewish politicians". So I am at a loss to understand why this person Aksi great has nominated it for deletion.Babub 14:04, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Recreated

Category:Muslim politicians is there, so precedent states that other religious gropus get cats like this as well.Bakaman Bakatalk 19:05, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

I have put a speedy delete tag on the cat as it is a recreation of a category for which there was consensus to delete[1]. Please post at WP:DRV if you want to undelete the category. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 07:54, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Where is the Afd? And why delete only the Hindu cat? What about Muslim politicians, Anglican politicians, Jewish politicians, Muslim politicians, Sikh politicians?Bakaman Bakatalk 16:09, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
This is true - if the consensus on Category:Muslim politicians was to keep, then this should apply for Hindu politicians cat also. Rama's arrow 16:22, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Is this category going to be used for all politicians that happened to be Hindus, including Mahatama Gandhi, Nehru, etc? What's the rationale of classifying politicians based on religion? I can understand a Jewish politician category for the US for historical reasons, but not a category for Protestant politicians. This is because during a period in history, Jewish politicians were meant to representat only Jewish peoples and interests. Categorization is a labor-intensive job, and for a lazy person like me, it seems it shouldn't be done unless it has some practical use. This categorization can be misleading because it might create the impression that, for example, Mahatma Gandhi represented only Hindus, and thus the two-nation theory is completely justified, etc. Do we need categories for Hindu cricketers or Hindu actors too? Just like cricket and acting have little to do with religion, secular nations are based on the idea of keeping politics separate from religion, and I think not all classifications that can be possibly done are equally useful or scholarly. Just some thoughts I felt like sharing. deeptrivia (talk) 17:19, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Well India is not secular in any sense, votebank religion based politics is the norm.Bakaman Bakatalk 04:46, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
