Hillsboro is a city in Henry County, Iowa, United States. The population was 205 at the 2000 census.

Hillsboro is located at 40°50′11″N, 91°42′49″W (40.836270, -91.713613)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 205 people, 81 households, and 54 families residing in the city. The population density was 155.2/km² (402.7/mi²). There were 92 housing units at an average density of 69.6/km² (180.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.02% White, and 0.98% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.98% of the population.

There were 81 households out of which 34.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.1% were married couples living together, 11.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.1% were non-families. 28.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.04.

In the city the population was spread out with 28.8% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 86.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $35,500, and the median income for a family was $36,563. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $11,985. About 13.6% of families and 21.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 31.7% of those under the age of eighteen and 17.9% of those sixty five or over.
