Hild (ヒルド Hirudo) is a character in Anime/Manga series Oh My Goddess!

The ultimate Demon in Hell, known as the Daimakaichō (The Great Demon Leader), and also Urd's mother. She is incredibly powerful, with her power dwarfing even the combined strength of the three goddesses. In the manga, she makes her first appearance in volume 21, in the season 1 of anime, she was only been seen in shadow, once during a flashback by Urd (where the latter was being given away to Heaven) and another time in the credits for the final episode of the TV series. On second season she makes her apearance at episode seventeen where she helps her daughter, Urd, because of the fact that she is currently in a "split-personality". This is a change from the original manga where she appeared to help undo the demonic spell that left Peorth as a child.

Later on, Hild leaves behind an avatar (a child version of herself) who would go on to become a regular antagonist for the goddesses, as well as a direct supervisor for Marller. While this avatar possesses only one thousandth of the true Hild's power, it is still enough to make the avatar a powerful enemy for anyone.

[edit] Personality

Although a lot of the time she presents a cheerful exterior, the façade hides a mind of incredible cunning and deviousness. Calm and patient, she is rightfully confident in her abilities, often treating those around her as pawns in a chess game. Despite her immense power, she respects the doublet system, and thus limits her power, to prevent killing any of the Goddesses. Also, she loves her daughter Urd immensely, even though she is disappointed in Urd's decision to be a goddess in total.

She seems to dislike Belldandy, even going as far as ignoring her during their first encounter and moving on to Keiichi. The main reason for this is because Belldandy's personality is exactly like that of Belldandy's father, who is also the father of Skuld and Urd, and is the reason for them breaking up. Later on, Hild has consistently shown an interest in corrupting Belldandy's soul, whether through awakening her darker emotions (such as rousing her jealousy by flirting with Keiichi) or attempting to forcibly convert her into a demon. For example, in the anime, Hild approves Marller's plan to alter Belldandy's Goddess license into a Demon license, while in the manga, Hild implants a demon angel (later known as the Wasp of Blue Lance) into Belldandy in an attempt to suppress her goodness. Why Hild does this is unknown, though speculation indicates that she wanted to prove to everyone, including herself, that no one is above corruption, even one such as Belldandy. However, Hild will settle for simply defeating and/or sealing Belldandy if possible.

Hild is the single most powerful antagonist in the Oh My Goddess! story to date. The only being who could compare with Hild is the the Almighty himself. Her penchance for deviousness and intrigue has lent a darkness to the Oh My Goddess! story that did not exist in the beginning.
