Hilary (née Hilary Pankhurst) is a television anchor with TV3, currently reading the 6 p.m. 3 News with Mike McRoberts.
Originally from Wellington, Barry received a BA in Linguistics and a Certificate of Journalism before working as a radio reporter in the Wairarapa in 1992. She became a news reporter for TV3 Christchurch in 1993 then moved to Auckland to work as a reporter and presenter on 3 News. She also reads the morning news on radio station More FM and participates in the morning shows there. She has two sons, Finn and Edward.
Hilary Barry presented the weekend edition of 3 News for six years, before being promoted to the show's top position, presenting the weeknight 3 News. This change occurred after former 3 News anchors John Campbell and Carol Hirschfeld moved on to present and produce, respectively, a new 7 p.m. current affairs show, Campbell Live.
