High-speed rail in Belgium
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Belgium's rail network is served by three types of high-speed trains: Thalys, Eurostar and ICE trains. All of them stop in Brussels South station, Belgium's largest train station.
Thalys trains operate between Belgium, Germany (Köln), The Netherlands (Amsterdam) and France (Paris). Thalys trains are a variant of the French TGV. Main stops in Belgium are Brussels Zuid/Midi, Liège and Antwerp. High speed stretches are only Paris–Brussels and most of Brussels–Liège. In 2007 Thalys will go on high-speed rail in all of Belgium. The remaning stretch between Antwerp and the Dutch border is currently being tested.
Eurostar currently connects Brussels to London Waterloo station. In autumn 2007 this will be to London St Pancras station after the link is finished.
The German ICE operates between Brussels, Liège and Frankfurt Hbf.
