Hicksville, Ohio

Hicksville is a village in Defiance County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,649 at the 2000 census.

Hicksville was the hometown of Daeida Wilcox Beveridge, who, with her husband, developed the Los Angeles suburb of Hollywood.

Hicksville is located at 41°17′39″N, 84°45′43″W (41.294281, -84.762078)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.5 km² (2.5 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,649 people, 1,476 households, and 957 families residing in the village. The population density was 559.1/km² (1,450.4/mi²). There were 1,567 housing units at an average density of 240.1/km² (622.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.88% White, 0.14% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 1.34% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.32% of the population.

There were 1,476 households out of which 32.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.9% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families. 29.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 3.03.

In the village the population was spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 88.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $39,459, and the median income for a family was $43,571. Males had a median income of $32,066 versus $22,413 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,385. About 2.1% of families and 3.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.7% of those under age 18 and 1.9% of those age 65 or over.

Hicksville has two different schools, Hicksville Elementary School and Hicksville High School, home of the Aces. However, the school district is in the process of getting ready to build a new school which is planned to be ready by Christmas of 2008.
