Hibernia Atlantic is a Transatlantic submarine communications cable system in the North Atlantic Ocean which connects Canada, the United States, Ireland and England.
It was originally built by 360networks in 2000, placed in receivership in 2001, then purchased in 2003 and began carrying traffic in 2005. It is now owned and operated by CVC Acquisition Co. (Ireland) Limited, a subsidiary of Columbia Ventures Corporation
It is a Tycom designed Terawave DWDM system transporting 10Gb/s SDH/SONET signals. As at the year-end of 2004 it had a transmission capacity of 160 Gbit/s, and a total cable length of 13,200 km. It is capable of being upgraded to a capacity of 1,920 Gbit/s. It started operation on 8 April 2001.
Two separate cables traverse the Atlantic but terminate at common points in Canada (Herring Cove) and in England (Southport).
It has landing points in:
- Herring Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada
- Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA
