Hexi Corridor

Hexi Corridor or Gansu Corridor (Chinese: 河西走廊; Wade-Giles: Hehsi Tsoulang), is located in Gansu province in China, it historically consist of Haidong, Xining and Juyan Lake and covers an area of about 215,000 km². As a part of the Silk Road in ancient China and situated north west from the bank of Yellow River, it is the most important passage to Xinjiang and Central Asia, Hexi is really a narrow but long stretched passage lasting for about 1000 km from steep Wushaolin hillside at the modern city of Lanzhou to the hillock site of Yumenguan at the border of Gansu and Xinjiang. There are many fertile oasis surrounded by vast expanse of Gobi desert, sandwiched in between snow-covered Qilian Mountains to the south with Beishan mountainous area and Alashan Plateau semi desert to the north.
