Many texts wrote that phoenix looks like heron. Moreover, in Heron (disambiguation), some guy added heron as name of Egyptian god; probably from some vague memories. That's why I added this link: to relieve these possible vague memories of hearing somewhere something mythological about heron. Mikkalai 17:00, 19 May 2004 (UTC)
I have changed the Phoenix link to Bennu, which is the bird really referred to. Dysmorodrepanis 18:22, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

I've moved this page back to [[heron]] because

  1. The bird is by far the most important and common use of the word, should not have to go through disamb
  2. Whoever moved to [[Ardeidae]] did not change all the many links from heron to Ardeidae|heron
  3. Articles should be at English name

All the 300 links are fixed now as direct or single redirect through [[Ardeidae]]. Cleared [[herons]], [[egrets]] and [[bitterns]] jimfbleak 07:11, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

I have added the bitterns to the listing here, because there seems to be no page with a phylogenetically correct listing of Ardeidae. This was intolerable ;-) Threw in some refs for good measure. But there is no need to alter the bittern page. We have a separate one for egrets and night-herons too. Besides, I put the fossil and other extinct taxa up, as I have outlined below the species listing. Dysmorodrepanis 18:22, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
