Hertie School of Governance

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hertie School of Governance (HSoG) was founded in December 2003 by the Hertie foundation that invested some 25 Million Euros for the first few years. The Hertie School of Governance (HSoG) aims to educate highly-qualified students for leadership positions in the public sector. Teaching and research focus on the varying approaches and difficulties of modern governance in a transnational and interdependent world. In it's teaching methods the school tries to combine practice orientation (use of case studies) and the insights drawn from in-depth academic research.

HSoG consits of three pillars:

the Master of Public Policy (MPP) programme, the Executive Education branch, and its research and knowledge transfer.

Master of Public Policy (MPP)

The Hertie School is the first private university to offer a Master of Public Policy (MPP) degree in Germany. The curriculum combines mikroeconomics, makroeconomics, poliical management, political science, law, sociology and related fields. The teaching is practice oriented, using case-studies from a variety of policy areas. In between the two years students have to complete an (at least) eight weeks long interships that culminates in a „personal project“. The tuition fee is set at 10.000 Euros per year. A significant amount of scholarships granting significant financial support is available.

In 2007 some 60-80 students are expected to commence their studies at the Hertie School. When fully established, some 15 full professors supported by 15 additional adjunct professors are going to teach a total of 160 HSoG-students.
