Hermigua is located on the northeastern coast of La Gomera in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife of the Canary Islands. It is located NW of the capital San Sebastián de la Gomera on a main highway. The Garajonay Park is located 7 km east of the town of Hermigua.

The population is 2,176 (ISTAC, 2004), its density is 47.6/km² and the area is 39.12 km² down from 39.67 km² in 2004. The elevation is 210 m. Farmlands are in the valley areas and within the Atlantic, the mountain and the hills dominate the southern part. Its climate is mainly vegetation. Forests dominate around Hermigua and are named Cedro.

Much of the area are made up of farmlands, the majority of the population are made up of rural population, tourism is the second industry.

The valley was first inhabited by the Guanches and was known as Mulagua. The municipality of Hermigua was founded in the 16th century in the settlement of Valle Bajo (Spanish for the "lower valley")

The population increased until the late-1990s and to 2000 when it went to a decline before returning to an increase in population.

  • Valle Alto, the first valley in Hermigua, it features a church and monastery built between the years 1515 and 1520, another landmark includes Escuela popular.
