Hermann von Reichenau (July 18, 1013 – September 24, 1054) was a Germany mathematician, composer, and scientist.

He was born in Altshausen, near Bad Saulgau and suffered from a disablity that prevented him from walking and made him difficult to understand. At the age of 7, he entered the Reichenau Monastery, which he probably never left for the rest of his life.

He became a very learned scholar transmitted Arabic mathematics and astronomy to central Europe. He was also interested in scientific instruments.

It is possible that we owe the division of the hour into minutes to him.
