Herga is a small village near Manipal and Parkala in Udupi district of Karnataka, India.

The area is dotted with paddy fields and forests. A calm and quiet place for people who want to get away from the busy streets of Manipal/Udupi.

It is approximately 3 kilometeres from Parkala and 8 kilometers from Manipal.

[edit] Herga Temple

Herga village has Durgaparameshwari Temple on a small hilltop. Yearly proccession (jaatre or uthsava) is carried out and is celebrated as grand event in Herga around the month of February. Stories tell that the Temple say that the Goddess Durgadevi came from Indrali and stayed here in the form of a Linga. The Temple was renovated in 1983. A stone-made flag post (Dwajasthambha) was offered in 1993. The devi is also called as Hergamma[protector of Herga Grama] or Gramadevate.

There is also a Triambakeshwara temple enroute to the Durgaparameshwari Temple.

[edit] Climate

The climate is humid and warm between November and May and wet and cool during the monsoon months from June to October. It has a tropical climate characteristic of coastal plains in the West of India.
