Hercolubus

The book Hercolubus or Red Planet.

This mythological planet is not to be confused with the mythological planet Helatrobus.

Hercolubus is a mythological planet that figures into the belief systems of some Gnostic and New Age groups. This mythological planet is the subject of the book "Hercolubus Or Red Planet" written by V. M. Rabolú in 1998. Rabolú (born 1926 in Tolima, Colombia — died 2000 in Bogotá) claims to have experienced some kind of "spiritual knowledge" in 1952, which supposedly allowed him to foresee the impending collision (or near collision) of earth with this planet.

As common versions of the meme go, either Barnard's Star or the comet known as Barnard 1 is actually a planet about 600 times the size of the Earth, and is foretold in the Holy Bible as "Wormwood" (Revelation 8:10-11). A problem with these variants to the story is that Barnard's Star and Barnard 1 (known as D/1884 O1), are not identical even though Hercolubus adherents often use the names interchangeably.[citation needed]

According to Gnostics, the orbits of Hercolubus and the Earth come very close to each other at the end of every Earth sidereal year. It is believed by adherents that the increase of global chaos and natural disasters are a symptom of Hercolubus' increasing proximity.[citation needed]

Despite the lack of any scientific evidence supporting the Hercolubus theory, some followers are promoting conferences on this subject throughout Latin America.
