Herbert Brownstein

Herbert Brownstein is a lawyer who specializes in the field of immigration. He is a senior partner of the Law Firm Brownstein and Brownstein in Montreal, Quebec. He was admitted to practice law in Quebec in 1984. He received his Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Civil Law and Bachelor of Common Law from McGill University in Montreal. A significant portion of Mr. Brownstein's practise is devoted to advice on commercial law, international business law and litigious matters. He is also responsible for overseeing the direction of their associated offices worldwide.
Herbert Brownstein was a founding lawyer of the Project Genesis Legal Clinic. He has worked with Head and Hands Legal Clinic and Arnold Bennett's Landlord Tenant Association. He is actively involved in fundraising and assisting the needy. Mr. Brownstein was past President of B'nai Brith's largest chapter, Mount Royal Lodge. On an international level, Mr. Brownstein visited India in March 1995 and was invited as a guest lecturer to appear before the Indian Merchant's Chamber (Bombay), the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce (Bombay) and the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Ahmedabad) to discuss legal issues concerning Indo-Canadian collaboration. In January 1996 he was invited on the Prime Minister of Canada's trade mission to India. In 1997 he was elected to the Executive Committee of the Canadian Bar Association Quebec Region Immigration Section, holding the position of Overseas office Co-ordinator, responsible for insuring the proper communication and co-operation between Canadian Attorneys and the Immigration authorities overseas based on an agreement signed by the Government of Canada and the Canadian Bar Association.
In May of 1997 he was a speaker at the APEC Exhibition and Seminars in Montreal honoring Canada's year of Asia Pacific. In November 1997, he was invited and pariticipated on MISSION QUEBEC to China led by the Premier of Quebec, Lucien Bouchard. In April 1999 he was a speaker at the Canadian Bar Association Conference on Immigration. In June 1999 he was a speaker at the International Bar Association Conference of Lawyers from around the world in Boston, U.S.A.. He has also been inducted into the 1999 International Who's Who of Professionals. Mr. Brownstein is a member of the Lord Reading Law Society, the Canadian Bar Association and is licensed to practise law by the Barreau du Quebec. Professionally he is recognized as an expert in his field across Canada serving as Vice Chair of the Canadian Bar Association (Quebec) Citizenship & Immigration Section and as an Executive Officer of the Canadian Bar Association National Citizenship and Immigration Executive.
He has also been invited and has participated and travelled on the Team Canada Trade Missions led by our Prime Minister to foreign countries. In November 2005, he went into politics, becoming a city councillor in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec.
