Herbert Asquith (poet)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Herbert Asquith (1881-1947) was the second son of Herbert Henry Asquith, British Prime Minister — with whom he is frequently confused — and younger brother of Raymond Asquith. He was a poet, novelist, and lawyer; his wife Lady Cynthia Asquith, whom he married in 1910, was a writer. She is the daughter of Hugo Richard Charteris, 11th Earl of Wemyss (1857 – 1937) and Mary Constance Wyndham.
Asquith was greatly affected by his service in World War I. His poems include "The Fallen Subaltern" and "The Volunteer", both of which are memorials to fallen soldiers. His books include "Roon" and "Young Orland".
