Herb Rubenstein

Herb Rubenstein has worked in public service for almost 30 years since receiving his Masters in Public Affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas in 1977. He has worked at the National Academy of Sciences, the American Institutes for Research, for the Carter and Reagan Administrations and has his law degree from Georgetown University. He is an entrepreneur and teaches entrepreneurship and leadership at Colorado State University. He has been a member of and lawyer for the American Federation of Government Employees and represented other unions and union members throughout his legal career.
Herb was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on April 22, 1953. He graduated from Byrd High School and then graduated Phi Beta Kappa/Omicron Delta Kappa from Washington and Lee University. He attended the University of Bristol in Bristol England on a Rotary Foundation Scholarship. He is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Golden, Colorado.
He is married to Dr. Laurie Bassi, Ph.D. He has two children, Jason Bassi Rubenstein, who graduated from Harvard University in 2004 and now lives in New York City, and Kathleen Bassi Rubenstein, who graduated from the University of Chicago in 2006.
He is the author of two books. Breakthrough, Inc.: High Growth Strategies for Entrepreneurial Organizations (Financial Times/Prentice Hall, 1999) and A Practical Guide to Leadership for Lawyers (National Institute for Trial Advocacy, 2005). He has written over 100 published articles on leadership, strategic planning and entrepreneurship. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the International Leadership Association and a Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jeleff Boys and Girls Clubs.
He was a candidate in the Democratic primary for the U.S House in the 7th Congressional District of Colorado, and won 9% of the vote. (map) His two opponents in the primary were Peggy Lamm and Ed Perlmutter. Ed Perlmutter won the nomination and defeatedRick O'Donnell (Republican) in the November 7, 2006 General Election.
