Herb Brooks Arena
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Herb Brooks Arena is a 7,700-seat multi-purpose arena in Lake Placid, New York. The famous Miracle on Ice occurred here during the 1980 Winter Olympics when the underdog United States ice hockey team beat the Soviet Union 4-3. The arena, originally known as the Olympic Center, was renamed after the late coach of Team USA, Herb Brooks, in 2005 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice.
The arena has been used several times for college hockey championships in the United States. It hosted the 1970, 1984 and 1988 NCAA Men's Frozen Four, and will host the 2007 Women's Frozen Four. From 1994 to 2002, the arena hosted the ECAC Hockey League championships in March.
