[edit] Plot summary
The protagonist of Herald is the Greek god Hermes, who tells of his own life from his birth to the final formation of the Olympian gods. The novel is written from Hermes' first-person point of view and includes many stories from Greek mythology, presented in serial form. Dozens of myths concerning Hermes are contained, including his birth; his duties as an Olympian, as a herald of Zeus, and as a guide of the dead; the births of Pan, Priapos, and others; adventures with heroes like Perseus and Orpheus; and the volatile relationship between himself and the goddess of love, Aphrodite. Hermes's history plays out against the backdrop of Zeus forming the final roster of the Olympian council, as some members leave and others take their places to eventually bring together the final, twelve Olympian gods.
