[edit] Lambic images

Those images you added are excellent: thank you for finding them! – ClockworkSoul 13:25, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

hehe, I had a lot of fun taking them and trying them, will upload more of the series to commons later this week with a bit of help from user:eloquence. I've also uploaded several pictures of beerglasses and beers to commons under the same nick. henna
That sounds like alot of fun to me! If you ever find yourself with a little free time, we sure could use a hand at the newly created WikiProject Beer :) – ClockworkSoul 21:34, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
oh my, I'll need help with translations for that :) I don't know all the names in english :( henna

[edit] vandalfighter

Hi Henna, v3.0 didn't work, but I'm now running 3.1.1 which works perfectly. All the bugs I reported have been fixed (for me at least) and I have struck out my reports on the VF page. I'll get round to trying v3.2 at some point and will let you know of any problems. Thanks for all your work on this, keep it up. Cheers. --Cactus.man 06:11, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Update: I think the problem with VF3.0 was an incompatible JRE version. I was running 1.4.2.09 but updated to 1.5.0.06 before running VF3.1.1. I just tried VF3.0 again and it worked without problems. I presume you are using some new classes / methods that are not available in older JRE versions? I have added a Troubleshooting section to the VF page regarding the JRE version - please modify it as necessary. --Cactus.man 07:50, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure the problem was the incompatible JRE version. All working well now though, so that's good. --Cactus.man 16:19, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
Tried the 3.2.1 version, and it does work on Windows ME, unlike the 3.0 version. Thanks, Henna. Colocho 22:04, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VF page layout and manual

I added the manual to the main page and moved bugs/feature requests into sub-pages.

Please let me know if you want a different layout for the VF related pages. I won't be offended if you would prefer it to be done in a different manner.

Hi there! Good to see someone is maintaining this fantastic tool. Anyway, I thought you might be interested in my improvments. Here's a patch for the vf.java file:

It does two things:

  1. The "B" column leads to the WP:AIV page instead of WP:VIP (and actually straight to editing the "Alerts" section), because RC patrol is a fast-paced "game". You'll also need to change the description in the GUI.
  2. The "T" column goes straight to editing the talk page instead of viewing it.

Keep up the good work! Regards, Misza13 T C 11:11, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Henna, I'd like to discuss a few things with you about VF. I've hacked a workaround, but I'd like to see it well done. I've added you to my MSN, please accept. The main topic of discussion is the integration of VF in another UI. Best regards, Nuno Tavares 00:08, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download

Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. AmiDaniel (Talk) 06:45, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VF integration

Hi Henna. Haven't seen you lately on MSN. I'd like to get back to our previous discussion. If you can, please send me the most up-to-date version of the Vandal Fighter so I can remake the changes I did to integrate it on JMWE to send you a correct diff. There is another suggestion to make. If you lost my MSN contact, here it is: nunotavare at hotmail.com. Best regards, Nuno Tavares 01:35, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VF on Mac

No problem.

Is there an option to view the diff between current and previous instead of between to oldid's? Because after a long time using Lupin's tools, comparing oldid's seems awkward... --M1ss1ontomars2k4 18:33, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:30, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalfighter redirect

Howdy! I saw that you created a VandalFighter redirect in mainspace that pointed to userspace. I've deleted it, this type of cross-namespace redirect isn't appropriate. Good tool, but you should keep the documentation in your userspace. Regards, CHAIRBOY () 06:17, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Did I create that? when? Henna 14:46, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
My mistake! It was User:Mac Davis. Please disregard, I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue. - CHAIRBOY () 14:49, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VF

Hi! I'm an user from es: Wikipedia. I'd like to tell you a problem that I'm having with the vandl fighter.

Well, let's begin, I downloaded and executed the 3.5 Vandal Fighter seeing the es: RC . The next day, I put it again, but it worked on the en: wikipedia. I decided to change the configuration and it didn't work, though. I run more times the VF with configuration on es:, but it always doesn't work... it only works on en:

It happened to another Wikipedian friend... Do you know what it could be or shall I use the 2.2 version? =P

I downloaded the 3.3 version, but it work in the same way...

Thanks and sorry for my english, --Equi 23:02, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Now, I found out that if I download the 3.3 version, in the first time, it works... When I close it and execute it again, it lose the configuration... Equi 01:58, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

I'll look into it, but will be a bit longer due to suddenly finding myself with a holliday job. Henna 15:21, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Still on break

Thought I'd drop by and say hi. I have a lot of Real Life stuff going on still but will be back soon.

[edit] Thank you, Henna

A special thank you for having fixed the "0" bug in VF. :-) Ciao, M7it 17:02, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] vf dead links

hello,

as you may have noticed every link is dead on VF's page. first, would be nice to resurrect them. then, would you somehow like to have some mirrors? if you can make the dirs reappear notify me and I'll start a daily mirror on the site, just in case your server decides again to stop. --grin 13:49, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

fixed the links, had forgotten to repair them yesterday when rescuing stuff of a slightly malfunctioning drive. Mirrors are greatly appreciated. Henna 19:58, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category watch

Hi Henna,

I was reading User:Henna/VF - note it still says you are doing pre-wikimania stuff, probably needs some update :-).

I actually was looking for something a little different. Monitoring changes in real time, like VF is assisting, is helpful but not always possible. I was thinking of a different, complementary approach, of some way to make sure all "important" articles are monitored. It would be great if there were some mechanism to automatically enable WATCHING not just individual articles, but whole categories, complete with their descendent categories.

That way, if one user watches the articles contained in, say, Category: Engineering, he or she would be able to catch and revert vandalism in any of the articles in the category. Users who do nothave time to monitor a top-level category can of coures choose to watch sub-categories instead. This would make watch lists more systematic and not sporadic, as they are today.

I am mostly active in the Hebrew Wikipedia where I'm a sysop, so I hope you're the right person to ask - was such a tool already developed somewhere in wiki space? Thanks! Odedee 01:23, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

you could try the recent changes/category: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Recentchangeslinked&target=Category%3ALiving_people Henna 15:46, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! I didn't know this could be done. This seems most helpful. Do you know if a removal of an article from the category would also show up using such a filter? E.g. if an article is blanked so that it is out of all categories, would it still show up? Odedee 15:53, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
dunno, you can also make 'related changes' lists by putting articles you want to watch on a page and then isiting the 'related changes' for that pageHenna 16:06, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, those articles I have on my watch list already; however it is sporadic - I'm looking for a systematic way to ensure complete catgories are being watched, not just articles I edited in the past. We may need to write a bot for this. Odedee 18:01, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

No need for a bot, you can use Catscan. It is limited to listing 1000 articles per category/subcategory per query but, you could periodically scan main sub-categories to catch all of the articles. Doing this sort of scan can have unintended problems, like if another huge category is listed as a sub-category, and that one has another one, you could end up with a list of almost every article on Wikipedia :)

You may want to use the Category Tree tool to make sure that you won't end up in a loop like that.

Here is an example Catscan report for [[Category:Ancient Egypt]] and its sub-categories and articles.

Here is the category tree view for that same category

-- That Guy, From That Show! 19:52, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh, this is superb. What a great tool! I will advertise this tool to the entire Hebrew wikipedia. Thank you so much, Odedee 21:41, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VF Bots

Hey Henna, I've noticed you've had PIRC bots pop up from time to time in the #vandalism-en-wp-2 channel. They are usually named vf######, and seem to somehow relate to your vandal fighter. I've just wanted to let you know that we've now opened the main channel, #vandalism-en-wp up to everyone, and since the other channel no longer has a 24 hour reporting bot in there, and will likely become obsolete in the near future anyway, you might want to redirect the bots to #vandalism-en-wp. Just thought I'd let you know. —Pilotguy push to talk 23:59, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
