Talk:Henry Jickling

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jickling was only ever an "Acting Judge" of the Court. Accordingly, I'm not sure that this succession box is appropriate for him. Further, I note that the succession box says "Supreme Court Justice of the Supreme Court of South Australia". However, the early judges of the Court were not styled "Justice" but "Judge". The title "Justice" appears to have been introduced from 1 July 1856 when Cooper was appointed Chief Justice.

In my view it is not really appropriate to have a succession box for "Justices" of the Court since, from the time of appointment of George Crawford as Second Judge, there was no "succession" to the position of judge or justice - more than one person could hold the office.

Thus my proposal is as follows: remove the succession box from this page (Jickling) and the Sir John Jeffcott page. Alternatively, remove the succesion box from Jickling, change the Jeffcott succession box to have Cooper as his sucessor and the title "Judgeo of the Supreme Court" and add a second succession box to the Charles Cooper (judge) page.
