[edit] Heritage corner
Do you know that Henry Park Primary School has produced a national gymnast, a prize-winning novelist and a popular television host? Do you still remember the school field that we once shared with Raffles Girls' Primary School?
These were some of the questions that raced through my head whilst doing research on the HPPS Heritage Gallery. Few primary schools have alumni associations and the Henry Park Primary School Alumni Association is one of the first in Singapore to set up a heritage gallery for its alma mater. With the school's encouragement, we launched a heritage memorabilia drive in 2003. Within a year, the gallery - Henry Park Express - was set up and opened in August 2004 by the school's long-standing Chairman of the School Advisory Committee Dr Cheng Wei Nien, whose own children and grandchildren have studied or are currently studying in Henry Park.
Comprising objects donated by former students, staff and teachers, the gallery is a marker of the school's various milestones and captures the memories of former and current students and teachers.
You can view our heritage gallery located next to the AVA room on level 1 in the school. Please register at the school's general office when you drop by for a visit.
[edit] Jenny Kow Arts Fund
As part of the 9th Alumni Anniversary celebrations, the Henry Park Primary School Alumni Association launched a special fund to honour the memory of our well-loved teacher, the late Mrs Jenny Kow.
Mrs Kow was a very familiar face in Henry Park Primary School, having been with the school since its inception in 1977. She was a keen promoter of the arts to her students and had been working on setting up a pottery kiln in school shortly before she passed away.
In remembrance of her many contributions to the school over close to three decades, the Alumni is setting up a fund to support arts-related school programmes. The idea has won the support of the school and Mrs Kow's family including her daughter Ms Petrina Kow, an alumni member from the graduating class of 1988 and well-known local radio personality. Petrina says, 'We are happy that the Alumni would want to honour my mother and our family would be keen to contribute towards such a fund.'
