Henry McIlhenny

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henry McIlhenny was the last private owner of the Glenveagh Estate, County Donegal, Ireland before it became Glenveagh National Park.

His family were the owners of the Tabasco Sauce company. He bought the 17,000 hectare estate in 1937 and used it as a part-time residence until 1981 when he made a gift of Glenveagh Castle to the Irish State, having sold the land in 1975. [1]

He was once described by Andy Warhol as: the only person in Philadelphia with glamour [2]. Over the years played host to a huge range of glamourous people at the castle including Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo and Yehudi Menuhin.
