Henry's Farmers Market (also known as Henry's) is a food retailer that operates in Southern California and parts of Arizona.

[edit] History

The roots of Henry's Farmers Market were established in 1943 when a family bought a truckload of peaches and sold them on a street corner in San Diego. In 1999, Wild Oats Markets, Inc. acquired Henry's Marketplace from the Boney Family and today continues their tradition of exceptional quality, value and service. The Henry's family includes 23 stores in Southern California and 5 in Arizona.

On February 22, 2007, CNN showed a story that Wild Oats Markets would be acquired by Whole Foods for US$565 Million.

Henry’s is a family of friendly, authentic farmers market stores that offer a shopping experience reminiscent of produce stands and neighborhood butchers of the 1950s. Henry’s stores have been known for more than 60 years in San Diego for their farm-fresh produce, high quality vitamins and supplements, and all-natural food, including bulk grains, nuts and candy, whole grain sprouted breads, fresh meats and seafood, deli offerings and a wide variety of grocery products.

According to a study, California’s No. 1 place to buy fresh produce by the Orange County Register’s 2005 Reader’s Poll, the heart of Henry’s is its produce department. Larger than the average produce department, Henry’s offers more than 350 farm-fresh conventional and organic produce varieties with an emphasis on California-grown items. From extra large artichokes and seven different kinds of tomatoes to fresh corn on the cob and Hawaiian-grown papayas, Henry’s produce selection and "prices that can't be beat".

Henry's now has a sister food retailer known as Sprouts, which also sells and operates like the rest of Henry's stores.
