Henri Frans de Ziel

Trefossa, pen name of Henri Frans de Ziel (born Paramaribo, January 15, 1916 – died Haarlem, February 3, 1975) was a neoromantic writer in Dutch and Sranan Tongo from Surinam. He is best known for the Sranan Tongo stanzas of the Surinamese National Anthem.

He worked as a teacher and lived for several years in the Netherlands. He is often associated with Surinamese writers like Corly Verlooghen, Eugène Rellum, Johanna Schouten-Elsenhout or Michaël Slory, and he was a very relevant figure in the independence of Surinam.

In 2005, a monument was built in his honour in Sophie Redmondstraat in Paramaribo.
