Henley Street

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henley Street is a historic street in central Stratford upon Avon, England. It includes William Shakespeare's birthplace, and the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and Library. As such, and with many picturesque and historic buildings, it is a major tourist area for the town. It is also a shopping street.

[edit] History

In 1556, John Shakespeare bought a house in this street. This half-timbered Tudor building was later to become the birthplace of one of his sons, England's foremost playwright, William Shakespeare in 1564.[1]
