[edit] Sports

In 2006, the Hen Hud Varsity volleyball team made school history when they won the Class A New York State championship.[1] One of their captains, Jessica Harris, was one of the 2006 Wendy's High School Heisman Award National Finalists. Lindsey Hock, a fellow co-captain on the varsity volleyball team, was named Journal News Player of the Year and was also named as a Con Edison Scholar Athlete.[2]

[edit] Controversy

In the 2005-2006 school year, considerable amounts of controversy engulfed the school. The first was a front page article in the North County News publishing allegations that Trooper Velez, the School Resource Officer, mistreated and harassed students in the school. One example of this allegation came from a student, who said that Velez remarked that "'If you don't shut your mouth, then I'm going to (hit) you in the face." [3]. Also, in that same school year, speaker Scott Fried was invited to speak to students at Hen Hud. This invitation was strongly condemned by a number of local Church groups, objecting to his presence because he was gay.

[edit] Miscellaneous

There are approximately 900 students in Hendrick Hudson, averaging about 225 students per grade.

The school was featured in an episode of MTV's High School Stories in November 2004.

Hendrick Hudson is also home to the annual Malcolm A. Bump Memorial Debate Tournament.
