Talk:Hell's Kitchen (Winnipeg)

[edit] Notability
Can we get a citation that anyone other than maybe a few people actually call this area "Hell's Kitchen"? --Mista-X 21:10, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah...I'm from Winnipeg, and yeah the gangs in that area are a problem, but I have never heard of it being refered to as Hell's Kitchen. Suggesting a delete, if no citation can be found! Insaneassassin247 05:03, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- Or perhaps a merger with Winnipeg, Manitoba, if the people over there feel it belongs? --Mista-X 07:55, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Article should be deleted. No one refers to this area as Hell's Kitchen, it is known as the Spence neighbourhood and is a part of the West End. It is in fact the poorest part of Winnipeg, although it was at one time a strong blue collar family oriented residential area; until aboriginals started living there. Wherever they go, goodbye neighbourhood! All the abo youth think it's cool to pretend they are gangstas living in NYC in the 80s but it's already so outdated and so stupid looking.
Having actually lived here, I can say that although I have heard the area jokingly referred to as "Hell's Half Acre", this is not a standard way of naming the neighborhood. Perhaps this name was commonly used in the tabloid press around the time of Winnipeg being referred to as "Canada's Murder Capital". I think we can safely delete.Mersperto 18:51, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
It Is Notable and should be kept
I frequent the north-end of Winnipeg and have yet to hear such a reference made. I believe this stub should be deleted. The neighborhood is notable only for the shambling, broken-down people that walk its streets. It has no hip nicknames that exist outside the boundaries of a few poorly educated youths' imaginations, let alone being known to the majority of the city's populace. At best, any references to it would align with an above writer's description of the majority's view of the largely aboriginal population that resides within. Furthermore, the stub has every indication of having been written by an imaginative child. "
