Helsinki City Marathon

The Helsinki City Marathon is an annual marathon foot-race held in Helsinki, Finland. It was established in 1980 and has become an annual event, with it normally held in August. The 2005 marathon drew about 6,000 participants.
The course starts near the statue of the Paavo Nurmi and finishes at the Olympic Stadium. Typical race temperatures are 18 - 22 °C. The race time limit is 6 hours. First prize amounts to €3,500. A half marathon also takes place on race day.
The 2005 winner of the marathon was Vener Kashaev (Russia) in a time of 2:20:00, whilst the first female over the line was Ritva Melender (Finland) in a time of 3:00:17.
