Hells Canyon National Recreation Area is a United States National Recreation Area located on the border between the states of Oregon and Idaho. The recreation area was established by the U.S. Congress in 1975 in order to protect Hells Canyon, a 7,993 foot (2398 meter) deep river gorge that is known as the deepest canyon in North America.

Roughly 215,000 acres (870 km²) of the recreation area have been designated the Hells Canyon Wilderness. There are nearly 900 miles (1440 kilometers) of hiking trails in the recreation area.
