[edit] Information
Hellhounds are a breed of demon footsoldiers of dog-like features bred during the Makhash Wars. This species became infamous for its habit of devouring the brains of its victims.
Four Hellhounds are summoned by Tucker Wells, the older brother of Andrew Wells and a Sunnydale High senior student, after being rejected by a possible Prom date. Tucker intends to use the Hellhounds to massacre the entire Senior Class of 1999
Tucker raised and trained four of the doglike demons to attack, kill and eat the brain of anyone dressed in typical formal wear, using videos of movies such as Carrie and Pretty in Pink in order to make the Hellhounds feel drawn to formal clothing, as well as entering in a state of killing frenzy in the presence of Prom music. During the Prom, the Slayer, Buffy Anne Summers, manages to hunt down the Hellhounds before they can massacre the Senior Class.
[edit] Biology
Hellhounds are covered in brown fur, have short tails and yellow eyes. They also walk on four legs.
Hellhounds kill through biting and mauling. Once the victim is dead, they proceed to devour its brains. Brains are the only food these demons consume.
[edit] Similar species
In "The Pack", a breed of demonic "hyenas" appear. Their spirits can bestow those they possess with superhuman physical attributes.
A similar species of demon to the Hellhounds attack a group of Initiative Soldiers in "New Moon Rising". These demons, also mistaken for Werewolves, have long fur and small horns. One of these demons, which is imprisoned in the Initiative, is responsible for the death of Colonel McNamara.
A breed similar to Hellhounds also exist in Pylea. Pylean "helldogs" (as referred in the shooting scripts) have spotted fur and pointy ears. They have been domesticated and are sometimes employed as hunting dogs. Cordelia gets chased by one such creature, owned by the Gathwok demon Trensiduf, in "Over the Rainbow", instead of attacking her, it licks her face.
