Hellesdon is a thriving suburb of Norwich approximately 4 miles (6.4 kilometres) north-west of Norwich in Norfolk, England. It has around 11,000 inhabitants.[citation needed] The Council Tax area is Broadland District Council.
[edit] History
Hellesdon is built on the site of the old Firs raceway (which was the home of the Norwich Stars and Ove Fundin), and the area really started when the speedway was completed. Before this time, the area consisted of various fields and farms, as well as the odd country house. This area has now developed into a major suburb of Norwich. It is very popular with older people and young families because of the large number of bungalows built in the 1960s. These properties can either be purchased as seen or extended into larger homes. Estate agents are very keen to have properties to sell in Hellesdon.
[edit] Amenities
Hellesdon has a number of small shops, an ASDA supermarket, six schools (one high school, two middle schools and three first schools), and Norwich International Airport (Norwich Airport). Norwich Airport flies thoroughout Europe as well as the British Isles and is mainly owned by KLM. The high school, Hellesdon High, is a specialist Technology College, and shares a Sixth Form partnership with Taverham High and Costessey High. One of the middle schools, Firside Middle, is named after the Firs speedway. There is also a community centre, and a library.
