The Hellenic Naval Academy (Greek: Σχολή Ναυτικών Δοκίμων, lit. "School of Naval Cadets") is an academy with university status and has the responsibility of educating and suitably training competent Naval Officers for the Hellenic Navy. Through bilateral military cooperation, cadets are accepted from other foreign countries as well. All lessons are taught in Greek and basic training lasts for 4 years.
The academy was officially founded in 1845 and its first training ship was the Loudovikos. In 1905 it transferred to Piraeus, where it has remained since.
