Perhaps one of the most "alternatively titled" films of all time: aka Zombie Creeping Flesh aka Virus aka Cannibal Virus aka Night of the Zombies (USA) aka Zombie Inferno aka Zombie of the Savanna aka Zombi 5: Ultimate Nightmare (Italy)
[edit] Trivia
- Mattei originally went under the pseudonym of Vincent Dawn in the credits.
- Stock footage from the film Vallée, La (1972) was used for the native scenes.
- In interview, Mattei confesses that he drew inspiration from Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" score by Goblin for the soundtrack. In reality, large tracts of the Dawn score have been blatantly lifted and inserted into the film.
- Set in Papua New Guinea, the film was actually shot in Spain - and it shows. A large quantity of natural history library footage of varying film stock quality has been inserted to help 'fool' the viewer the action depicted takes place in a tropical clime. Cue slow motion shots of tree-leaping monkeys, and diving water-fowl.
- Claudio Fragasso, the writer of the screenplay, said in an interview that he had directed one half of the movie.
- Irish thrash band Gama Bomb have a song of the same name on their 2006 album Survival of the Fastest.
