Helga Hegel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Helga Hegel was the chief overseer of the Helmbrechts subcamp of Flossenburg concentration camp.
Little is known about the former Oberaufseherin Helga Hegel. What is known is that she took the place of former chief wardress Martha Dell'Antonia in late 1944 or early 1945. When the small camp was evacuated, Helga rode on a bike along side commandant Alois Doerr. The two were also reportedly lovers. After the guards fled the march, Helga was captured by United States troops and confessed to accusations of maltreatment of prisoners. She also stated that she was not in the SS, nor were her female overseers below her. It is unknown what happened to Helga Hegel since her personal file is missing from the archives.
