Helena Bugallo and Amy Williams, are a piano duo, who made their Ojai debut in 2005, have been performing innovative programs of contemporary music throughout North America and Europe since 1995. Their repertoire of new works and masterpieces of the 20th century for piano four-hands and two pianos includes works by Cage, Debussy, Feldman, Kagel, Kurtág, Ligeti, Sciarrino, Stockhausen, Stravinsky and Wolpe. They have premiered dozens of works, many of which were written especially for them, by such composers as Lukas Foss, Steve Reich, Jukka Tiensuu, Kevin Volans and Bernard Rands. Through their collaborations they have explored new approaches to the piano through multimedia applications, electronics, and extended techniques and frequently perform in works for multiple keyboards, chamber works, and concertos. The duo has undertaken an extensive transcription project of the Studies for Player Piano by Conlon Nancarrow, resulting in a recording of Nancarrow's music for piano duet and solo piano on Wergo. Upcoming CDs include works of Erik Oña (Wergo), Jorge Liderman (Albany) and Igor Stravinsky (Wergo). The duo frequently presents master classes and lecture-demonstrations at colleges and universities in the U.S. and Europe.
