Helen Bradley

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helen Bradley MBE (19001979) was an artist born in the village of Lees, near Oldham, in Lancashire, England. Helen was born at 58 High Street, Lees on the 20th November 1900. She passed away on the 19th July 1979 shortly before she was due to be honoured with the MBE.

She painted mainly with her hands and fingers. Her oil paintings vividly depict Lancashire life as it was between 1900 and 1910. As popular in the U.S. as in the United Kingdom, her paintings now fetch tens of thousands at auction. A series of books illustrated with these naive paintings topped the bestseller lists in the early 1970s.

Much of her work can be seen in Gallery Oldham, a state-of-the-art art gallery complex found in Oldham which serves the local and wider communities.
