Heldrungen is a town in the Kyffhäuserkreis district, Thuringia, Germany. The population was 2,333 at the 2005 census, compared to 2,606 people in 1995. Heldrungen is located 51°18′ N, 11°13′ E. Nearby rivers are Unstrut and Wipper. According to the Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 23.3 km².

It is know for its fortification with two water ditches, four vauban bastions and five rondells. In the center of the fortification is a renaissance castle located which was built within 1512 - 1518. Today the castle is used as a youth-hostel.
